Recent situations have happened that got me to stop, take a step back, and think about what love means. For a while, I was pretty sure I knew what love was… I thought LOVE was that burning feeling when you’re around a certain person. I thought LOVE explains why you care about the well being of another person more than your own. I thought LOVE could handle anything that life had in store.
I learned that it is more… LOVE isn’t perfect with rainbows and unicorns. I began to question… Maybe the idea of love is more significant than the actual individuals in “love”. Maybe people are only in “love” with the idea of love and give room for ugly things, like jealousy, to appear. Maybe just anyone could just fill the role of the object of affection. Maybe love starts with the intention of wanting to be that person to change or even help define the word LOVE for the other person.
Is it so bad to want to find love? Is it so bad to want to show someone else that love exists? I admit that I see a bit of selfishness in wanting love.
It is what it is… Love is not as simple as it should be sometimes. Love comes with heartache. Yet if you want to know the great feeling, you need to open up your heart and start to realize how YOU want to define the word. There will be someone trying to define it too alongside you. Once YOU know what it is or is not, remember, it’s the person you love, not the idea of love
